Col de la Schlucht is a mountain pass in the Vosges in France. The mountain pass has historically served as the border between Lorraine and Alsace. The pass got its name from the German word "Schlucht", which means "gully" or "gorge". The pass connects Munster (Haut-Rhin) with Gérardmer (Vosges) via the D417.
With an average gradient of 4.3%, and a maximum gradient of 8.6%, the Col de la Schlucht may not be a particularly steep climb, but with a length of 17.5km, the Col de la Schlucht is a very long climb that drains your strength.
The Tour de France has visited the Col de la Schlucht 8 times. The first time was in 1961, when Belgian Jef Planckaert was the first rider to cross the summit. The last time the Tour de France visited the Col de la Schlucht was in 2014, when Thomas Voeckler was the first to cross the summit.
